There are many forms of giving, NYCEF has established several specific formats for your gifting. These formats make it easy for you to gift in any amount you wish and as a 501©(3) Non-Profit Corporation there may be tax benefits, please contact your tax advisor for more information.
The General Fund for the Endowment accepts gifts of any type or size and these gifts will be placed into a general fund which holds all donations and uses only the earned interest and income from the fund to provide scholarships and for projects within the scope of the Endowment. Your contribution will never leave the General Fund but will continue to grow with the other gifts and in year to come will continue to give as the fund grows.
Memorial Gifts We all have lost someone who was special to us and to the Club. The NYCEF has a very special program which remembers those individuals. Memorial Gifts are pooled to be used for worthy and ongoing projects around the club and in the sailing community. Specific gifting may be made in the name of any individual, whether a member or not, their gift will assist programs which help the whole community of sailors. NYCEF sends condolence contribution messages to the families of the deceased to denote your caring and sharing in their sorrow. Memorials Page
The Named Gift program of the Newport Yacht Club Endowment Fund is for specific use gifting where the funds are specifically designated to a project such as Junior Programs, Maritime Scholarships, or for specific purposes defined by the Giver. A donors name might become attached to larger gifts and might be presented annually. Please contact the Trustees to discuss your thoughts and desires on Named Gifting Programs.
Gifts of Property This program’s administration is directed to those who wish to assist the Endowment with physical articles which have value but have become of little or no use to the owner. NYCEF will accept items which have been evaluated and a fair market price established by an appraiser. NYCEF will then sell, trade, or otherwise dispose of the item at auction, closed or open sale, or as may be the case to obtain funds which can be added to the General Gifts fund. Givers are advised to speak to their Tax and Legal consultants prior to making these gifts to assure that the gift is within federal and state guidelines, the Trustees can not make or give opinions on these matters but can offer referrals to consultation.
The Tommy Dawson Memorial Fund. This fund was established by NYC and in mid-summer 2006 was transferred to NYCEF. The purpose of this fund is for support of Junior Sailing Programs. Several members of the NYC established the Dawson-Pike Memorial Golf Challenge with a formal Trophy and after match festivities. The first years income including donations doubled the funds size.
